[Posted 05/01/2015 09:15]
January is a great time to plan for the year ahead there's a fresh new calendar on the wall and we haven't broken our resolutions (yet!).
There are lots of aspects of your business to consider as you make your plan for 2015 and a key one is recruitment. Are you anticipating any of your team retiring this year? Maybe you're hoping to expand your business: will your current team be able to cope with the increased workload or will you need new members of staff?
Whether you're replacing outgoing team members or creating new roles, it's really important to get your recruitment right. Getting it right will result in recruiting someone who wants to stay ? that's fantastic news for your business. Firstly, you won't have to shell out to recruit a replacement in a few months' time. Secondly, someone who works with you for years will become a strong team member, helping your business to really thrive.
So, “getting it right” is important, but how do you do it?
Start by talking to a recruitment expert. At Oraculum, not only do we know our stuff but we give our advice for free. Whether you're completely new to recruitment or just want to check you're on the right track, we'd love to hear from you. If you're more of a reader than a talker, you can check out our 10 Steps to Easy Recruitment here.
When it comes to recruitment, it's really important to get your own attitude right. Remember, if you invest in your recruitment, you're investing in your business. You want to attract a high-quality candidate and the best person for the role and to do this, you need to highlight the benefits of working for your company, whether it's good pay and benefits or a great atmosphere and lots of support.
If you're planning to introduce a new role, be really clear about what it will entail, what duties it will cover and what you'll expect from the new employee. Decide exactly what skills and experience you're looking for. Using a clear application process and interview questions will help you establish if a person has the right skill set, as well as being fair to all the applicants.
At Oraculum, we know how important it is to find someone who'll love working for you and want to stay (“employee retention” in recruitment-speak!). We practice what we preach and thoroughly planned our own recruitment campaign. It still took six weeks to find the right candidates with the right skills but now we have a fantastic new team, excited to be working with amazing business owners in 2015.
